    #478701 - 12/03/01 10:09 PM (15 years, 2 days ago)

okay... i suppose this may be a stupid question to some... but, i don't know where to get wheat straw from... is it possible to substitute hay or alfalfa like you would get from a pet store?

also... which strains work best on wheat cased with 50/50? i am trying to grow lipa yai's right now but colonization is taking forever.

thanks

my wookie friend was thinking about trying with some different substrates... he wants to give a try at NOMIS tek at the growing section of shroomery... anybody tried that???
ummmmm... as you're experimenting a new substrate, my wookie would pick hes fastest colonizer at first, if he were in your place..

haven't heard of the NOMIS tek...
well has your wookie tried wheat? i spawned it with rye grain and its going, but going slow... but thats not what i was wondering, i'm wondering if, in my next run, i can just buy some rabbit hay from the pet store and use that. i'd rather hear from someone who knows instead of wasting money on syringes on something that is destined to failire.

hold it hold it hold it. Hay and straw are not the same thing. Straw is the stalk of large grained grasses that has had the tops cut off and has been harvested and bailed. Timothy grass hay is a whole plany of the grass timothy and contains the leaves, and seeds of timothy grass. You want straw. Just get creative damn it. Who would have straw in your area? Who would use straw in your area? The Zoo? The local feed mill? A Farmer? The animal shelter? The local strawbale house builders? Think man think!

Despite what some people here say, do not use timithy cob... or any 'hay' for that matter... but you can use any kind of straw.
