Questions about birthing cakes
    #4783536 - 10/10/05 04:53 PM (18 years, 5 months ago)

Hey all,

First time grower here, I am using the PF Cake Tek with B+ spores. I inoculated on Sept. 20th, and 2 of my 5 cakes became fully colonized last friday (10/7). The 3 cakes are not far behind, about 80-90% done. Anyways here is my prediciment. Today is monday, and this weekend I am considering leaving for the weekend to visit some friends in minnesota. I do not want to birth the cakes into my fruting chamber and then just leave for a few days, because I feel that will ruin them. So my question is this: will it hurt the fully colonized cakes to leave them in the jars until next sunday night(10/16)? I know a lot of it depends on pre-pinning and all that, but I since it is my first time I dont know what pinning looks like or how to judge when to birth them.. can someone help me out please so I can decide whether to leave this weekend or no???

Thanks
Tim

I dont think it would hurt them at all to wait. I would just reduce the tempature and keep them dark.

So does everyone agree that this will be alright to leave fully colonized cakes in the jar for about a week and a half? I am worried that they will pin while i am gone or that they will develop mold? Do i have the right to worried?

If they do pin inside the jars...you will have some fun guys when you get back.
Just make sure you keep them in a dark place if you don't want them growing on the inside of the jars.

contams shouldn't be too much of a problem at this stage.

have a nice trip!~
