I personally recommend the PF-jars grow kit for a first grow. I'm well along into my first grow with it, great pinning, no contamination whatsoever. Not to mention it comes with EVERYTHING you need for a basic grow excluding the spores.

Grow Kits work yes, Referencing off-site vendors doesn't.
If you do it yourself, you can save a lot of money.
Read around this website if you want to figure out how stuff works. You'll learn it instead of just knowing it, besides the fact that there is a TON of information here. Its practically a mushroom encyclopedia.....
Yield depends on all the factors through the growing stage. Essentially your grow will give back to you what you gave to it. It works nicely like that.
If you really want to have your questions answered, use the search button. Someone has asked the same question before, and the same question gets answered. Over and over. Search.

Good point, I just felt the need to plug it. He has it right, do your research, read the awesome Guides and FAQ's. The only thing I've had problems with making at home in the past is truly sterile jars... for lack of an auto-canner/pressure cooker. That boiling method always leaves some contams in my experience.

I have had friends that have used the homestead kit...its not that bad for a kit.
I personally wouldn't get a kit though.
Yeild is dependent on substrate and growing conditions...how much your gonna get would be a guess.
