Yet another WBS question - Shaking after PC and more

How important is it to shake the jars up while they are still hot? Due to bad timing i just started my PC and it wont be ready to open (pc time + time for the pressure to go down) for an hour and 15 mins or so. The problem being that i have to go to work tomorrow, so some sleep would be nice.

If you don't shake them while they are hot, the WBS will clump together(they will be wet on the bottom and dryer on top)and make it very difficult to shake during colonization.

Be darn SURE - the internal temp is room temp. Inoculating a hot jar - doesn't do much good.

I think i may have fucked my jars. The hole i drilled for the inoculation wasnt big enough, so I inoculated through the air transfer hole and taped over it. I'm not sure what effect this will have, perhaps someone can enlighten me. I figured it was worth a shot since i have some extra solution lying around.

As long as you kept things clean, you should be OK. What did you have for a filter on the air transfer hole?

Tyvek, the inoculation holes are protected too but i left them open because they weren't pierced. I don't know how much air exchange can get through though. I think the holes are approx. 1/16.

a gram or 2 of gypsum can be added to aid in shakability and reduce the chances of developing wetspot

Your jars will be fine with minimal air exchange, despite all the hype about needing massive air exchange for colonizing jars.

The jars will probably colonize a little slower, but as long as your moisture content was good, it'll be OK.
