Fanning my terrarium
    #4766134 - 10/06/05 09:08 PM (19 years, 2 months ago)

In my terrarium setup I am going to use a large rubbermaid container with perlite on the bottom. Do you still have to fan your terrarium if you are using perlite? What other kind of maintenance do I have to do with a perlite based terrarium? I am sorry if this is an inferior question but I am a noob. Just starting my first grow in a few days.

yes you still need to fan.

theres really no other maintenaince, but some people like to keep 1/2 inch to 3/4 inch of water on the bottom soaking the perlite cuz that keeps the humididty up, but if you have a pump, or any other humidifier, then you're fine, and you dont have to worry about leaving water on the bottom.

i dont know but i heard that you should soak the pearlite and drain off the extra water. keeping standing water in the pearlite reduces the humidity and promotes bacteria growth.

I cut 4" holes in the lid filled with polyfill...Then 4-8 3" holes along the bottome just above the perlite stuffed with polyfill...

Works as a natural air/gas exchange, no fanning needed.

^^This is true. Also, as stated above, standing water contributes to bacteria growth
