Maya

I speculate on the thought of Maya. That everything in this world is an illusion, enchantment or dream. That everything is meaningless and insignificant but this is my personal take. Basically Maya is everything as a concept or thought.
Maya is always keeping you chasing the tail of the dragon. This dragon is what you seek. What you seek is the truth.

Maya alters the way you sense the great Way or the Way. It infact creates this 'Way'.

Almost everyone is extrolling Maya as some great significance. But I say almost everyones view of Maya being this great hype. While its just meaningless existence.

I have a Zen philosophy of that everything is the blinding snow (mayko - hallucination, vision). Mayko is considered the short coming. But I question is everything the short coming?

it's good to point out that meaningless doesn't mean pointless. For we are still going somewhere, even if it is only in circles. I like the phrase "empty of meaning" better.

It is not meaningless existence, per se, but an existence of it's OWN meaning, with no concern for whatever meaning our minds assign to it.

If that makes any sense...

With such abstract concepts it's easy to understand why many people think of Buddhism as a pessimistic religion.

you may be so thirsty for meaning that you are wringing water from a twisted rag and cursing the drops that fall for being meagre.

as if meaning will sustain you. while you already are that which is sustained (by nature, by cause and effect?, and by the unseen???) anyway.

but being thirsty proves a need or an essential inquirer - who am i?

the world is just as real as it feels but how real is that? dreams also feel real while you are in them. the world is considered unreal solely for the fact that it lacks permanency and therefore has no substance.

here illusion may mean unrecognized or just dissociated, also as in unreal or disconnected.

"Here again we can illustrate from physics: the world of "name and form" exists only as a condition of perception; at the subatomic level, separate phenomena dissolve into a flux of energy. The effect of maya is similar. The world of the senses IS real, but it must be known for what it is: unity appearing as multiplicity.

The person who disidentifies himself with the conditions of perception in maya wakes up into a higher mode of knowing in which the unity of life is apprehended directly. The disciplines for achieving this are called yoga..."

any time i try to talk about maya/illusion with my imaginary zen master, he whacks me in the head with his thick shit stick at least 10 times. then again, if you're not into hardcore rinzai sqool "get wise thru beatings" techniques, by all means, join the soft mickey mouse pussy soto "sit your ass zazen until it's numb" wankers who like to get off on mental masturbation like the type you've espoused...

Science is as much a philosophy as is Buddhism, for example. Both require some sort of faith.

I was about to ask what Maya exactly is... but I think this cleared it up for me.

Maya: Phenomenal reality; the appearance or illusion (since Reality itself cannot be divided or measured) of a world of separate entities; the divine power which creates this world. Barely alluded to in the Upanishads, maya is a key idea in the philosophical system of Vedanta, used to explain how the phenomenal world can be identical with Brahman.
