My friend has little white pins forming on his casing but they haven't been growing for a couple days. Is there anything he can do to make the little white dots form into mushrooms?

If you have little dots all over the cake but nothing is growing, my guess is that your cakes aren't properly hydrated. Try dunking them for about 24 hours.

dunk*ing: (verb) 1) To fill up a pot with water, and sterilize it. Let it cool down, and drop your cakes in there. Wait a while and take them out.

If your casing is dry, it may pull away from your container. If this should happen, stuff some wet verm. in the open spaces. You do not want to do too much at this point. Just make sure your atmosphere is moist enough but not too moist, temp is right, and be careful not to touch any of those pins. Patience is rewarding.
