some un answered peyote questions

I have a peyote that is about 5 years of age now. This summer he flowered for the first time. I unforunatly missed the flower and was only there to see a dried up flower.
What would I need for me to harvest seeds from my cactus next year?
ok this next question is a little odd because I have some cactus books but none of them explain it.
When will my cactus start to create off shoots? I see some pictures of peyote's that never had an off shoot but then I see some that are devoured.

"What would I need for me to harvest seeds from my cactus next year?"
two of your fingers. pick the fruit after it shrivels up. the seeds are inside.

Depends on the cactus, if its 5 years and doesn't have any pups, it doesn't sound too likely. But as they get much older I'm sure it'll happen.
There was just a dried flower left? You sure you didn't get any fruit? You could've very well had seeds this year, they self polinate.

There is still a dried up pod looking thing in the center where the flower is. I didn't know what is was since I missed the entire flowering. I all I have left is that pod that I thought was the dried up flower.
Is there a certain way of getting the seeds out of the pod without harm?

thanks, I will try that later tonight.
I am still wondering if there is a professional answer to my second question.
I don't mind if my peyote will be single but damn I don't want to be looking at him and thinking I got a retarded cactus.
I still can look forward to the seeds though.

I don't think its retarded looking. Some cacti get tons of pups. Some don't. You'll have seeds, and one of those seeds will be a 50 pupped monster
How long have you had it? It's a 5 year old, plenty of time to pup, but it may have already. Depending where you bought it from, they may have harvested those and sold them, planted them, or other.

I checked last night and thats pod was probably the flower. I didn't see any seeds. It was composed of mostly fiberous plant material. I searched the soil also to see if maybe the pod fell into the soil. No Luck!

I got him when he was 2-3 years of age. he was small and healthy. it didn't look like anyone harvested any pups from him.
Is it possible that my plant didn't produce seeds this year?

Yes, they're incredibly small. And yes, its possible it didn't produce seeds. You generally will only get a few through self-polination. If you have another flowering plant, though, you can get dozens of seeds easily, flowering many times throughout the season.

I do know what the seeds look like. What I saw wasn't seeds but rather plant material. I am assuming that it didn't produce any seeds this year. I guess next year I will just have to pay closer attention to him.
just out of curiousity, When is it the right time to pick the fruit from the cactus?
