I found this small cluster growing in my lawn, but I've never seen mushrooms like this growing on anything but wood:
Habitat: my lawn Stem: about 1" long, brown, soft but tough Cap: about 1"x1.5", tan with red-brown edge. top is soft and leathery, like swede Gills: it has white pores covering the bottom of the cap Scent: I'm not sure how to describe it other than a VERY pungent 'mushroom' smell. it's not a pleasant smell.
I've never taken a spore print from a mushroom with pores on it, in fact I'm not even sure if I can take a print from this kind of mushroom...can I? I have it sitting on a sheet of paper under a jar right now, will that work?
