Do these look healthy?
    #4747724 - 10/03/05 12:19 AM (18 years, 5 months ago)

This is my first grow. My cakes are a little different.

The first pic is of a cake that has already had 2 full sized shrooms harvested. But see that guy on the top left. He isn't growing too fast. Is all the fluffy normal?

The second pic is one of the other cakes birthed at the same time that looks like it is doing fine.

The third pic is of a cake that was just birthed 2 days ago. The one behind it was just birthed today.

Does everything look ok? Anything I need to change or watch out for? Thanks for any info!

woa those mushrooms look way dark or something, and all that fuzz looks more like the cobweb mold rather than mycelium, i am a noob, those are my first opinions, but definetly wait until a pro looks at this, they could be compeltely normal, but they might be contaminated and harmful...

yes you are a noob. and no that doesnt really look like cobweb mold.

what is your humidity at? it could be caused by too high humidity. ive seen posts on here before where people have that happening to cakes, and fuzz also coming off mushies, where its been too high humidity was the case.

They're not as dark as they appear to be. The pic was really green so I used an auto color correct to make it better and the shrooms came out a little darker than they are.

One thing I can say about the fluffy is that it DOES NOT look like hair (as the pics of cobweb mold do on this site). It is very clumpy and brusied bluish when I touched it. But this is exactly what I am asking about. It is it mold I need to know. I've already sprayed once with the h2o2 solution about 3 days ago thinking it might be mold.

As far as humidity goes, I've got an ultrasonic humidifier on the lowest setting going through 4 2liter bottles into a cooler. I read that too low humidity caused the myc on the caps and I couldn't tell if that was happening (in the 1st pic) or if it was the other way around. I've been turning the humidifier off for a little while every day to see if it changed any thing and it hasn't yet.

crack the lid on your terrarium a little bit. that will lower the humidity. if it bruised blue when you touched it, then it is mycelium. if it was cobweb mold, the h202 solution would have stopped it dead in its tracks. just get the humidity a little lower and you should be fine. good luck, and have a safe trip when those little dudes are mature.

read above on my 2nd post...
ultrasonic hum. with 4 2liters. didn't want to mist too much if the problem was too high humidity.

That is def. NOT cobweb. And is Def. fluffy mycellial growth because of a high humidity. It could also be a characteristic of the strain that you are growing.

what are you doing for fresh air exchange? the ultra sonic probably isn't going to provide enough of that but is giving you lots and lots of humidity. more air exchange and you'll be good i think.

See the Puerto Rican method in the cultivation pages. It has some suggested lid constructions that sound legit. Again though, no experience using this method. Definitely NOT Cobweb!
