lowering rH without hygrometer
    #4749062 - 10/03/05 11:59 AM (18 years, 5 months ago)

k so i will be casing in the next day or 2 and i know i need ~100% rH to form pins. I will be using a nice layer or perlite and some water, this should give me between 95%-100% correct?

The other thing I need help on is after the pins form, i need to drop it to around 90%-95% to fruit, right? Without a hygrometer, would just cracking the lid a bit be sufficent, or would that let too much humidity escape? So if anyone has any suggestions on how to get the optimal rH for fruiting a casing without a hygrometer, please tell.

thanks.

You already bought the jars, substrate, perlite and a fruiting chamber. For a few more bucks, why not just get a hygrometer too and save yourself some trouble? Do you expect to be able to eyeball the humidity? Not gonna happen.

yea obviously i cant eyeball it, thats why i was wondering if anyone had success with just like cracking the lid a bit or something.

I guess i'll prolly end up going and getting a hygrometer, but I thought the cheapo $20 ones werent good for our purposes? (ie they cant read over 90%?) I saw how to calibrate it with the salt and water, so would a cheap one be ok if i calibrated it with the salt? thanks.

Yes. Cheap hygrometers are the reason you need to use salt to calibrate them :smirk:

i have a 24.00 one from radio shack - works like a charm

PS- NO ONE ANSWERED HIS QUESTION.

would cracking it lower the humidity?  i think fanning a few days without misting will be good

No matter what I say and no matter what I write here.

Thanks. So if i monitor the rH though, if its too high, how do I lower it? cracking the lid, or fanning without misting?
