 Just birthed my first cakes! Got a question..

Well I just birthed my first cakes, I dunked them in a 10water/1H202 solution for 10 hours. I rolled them in dry verm and placed them on the tops of jars I wasnt using. They are now sitting in my terrarium and I will have to wait for the growth now.
I have a question, my incubator room for the 2 weeks they had been incubating always had the smell of brf/verm jar right out of the PC. However when I opened the jar they had a real pungent fungus smell, im hoping this is just the smell of mycelium and that I dont ahve any problems.

Well this is my first grow and the only mushrooms ive smelt are dried ones. and these arent like that, less foul and more pungent.

mine smelled like a fairly large supply of store-bought White Button mushrooms. mmmmm.

yea if it was contaminated then you wouldnt mistake the horrible smell from the pleasing smell of fruiting cakes...

man. i have that same damn terrarium. and im having such a problem keeping the humidity up in it.

How does the terrarium smell to you? It has that foul wet perlite smell and it has that hint of sweetness which has to be the shrooms.

it smells like perlite. because i dont have any fungus growing material in it yet due to me not being able to get the humidity up. but, you should have a noticable fungus smell.

They mycelium should smell like straigh shrooms so fungus smell = good, sweet smell on the other hand is not so good. Thats a bactrial infection, watch out. And for the humidity problem put the terrarium in your bathroom. Turn your shower on hot full blast and let it sit for like 15 - 20 min. You may want to think about running some air stones under your perlite to get your air exchange automated so that way you dotn have to keep raising humidity.

Well i smell more wet perlite than I do anything else, but there is that tint of fungus smell in the background.

Make sure the lid is snug. If not, ditch it and use some saran wrap or a garbage bag as a lid instead.
