Libs going crazy here! (+ a qustn bout their mycelium)
    #4748273 - 10/03/05 07:17 AM (11 years, 2 months ago)

Yesterday hunt got almost 80 of them! It's on the field had completely nothing just a week later.. What a pity I still havent a digicam.
I'm impatient of sharing these great sights of shroomy tussocks
with all of you. Some of them are worthy of placing in a mushroom guide book!

Mushrooms look really cool and I would glad if the mycelium will be
okey for next years. So I have a question: what a method of
picking brings the least damage for underground parts of mushrooms?
When I was a kid, my school biology teacher told us that pulling out of "rooted" edibles damages mycelium, and the better way is to cut a stem off with a knife. Is it true on the whole and for Semilaceata especially?

Cut them off with scissors. Just pulling on them damages mycelium. Damaged mycelium = less mushrooms.

blasphemer, check your private messages! (click "My PM's" link located on this page under the Welcome..) Our conversations in Russian wouldn't be interesting for most of people on this forum.

Picking4Peace, thanks! I was thinking about scissors, it seems like it would be useful.

Dam, I wish I was up where you were.
I don't have that good of luck, hopefully I will in the future.

hcrider, og course you can. It's easy.

But it will probably will not help the cause of healthy mycelium. When you pull them out, that hurts the mycelium, and when you put it back, you are only putting back damaged mycelium. And possibly damaging the remaining mycelium even more.

LiQuidSlim, it's the first active mushroom luck in my lifetime.
I couldn't find anything in 2004 despite the fact that I spent a lot of golden autmn days afield.
This year, I was crawling through the fields on all fours since the last days of August. . I was feeling despair to find anything untill I run into them in the place I considered absolutely hopeless.. Just search and you'll find!

Deathcap: net, oni poka lejat v holodilnike

I sayd they are still in the fridge.

I'm about to trip together with my friend soon. Maybe the next weekend. I was busy yesterday but dropped on that field for a hour
before sunset. I had time to pick another 36 choco boys until darkness fell.  :crazy2:
