Casing layer too wet?
    #4747292 - 10/03/05 12:35 AM (12 years, 2 months ago)

A FOAF cased 2 qts of WBS about 4 days ago and has been misting the sides of the walls to keep humidity up. However, the top of the fruiting chamber started collecting water on the top and some of it started to fall on the casing surface... It doesn't look like there are any pools of water on the casing, but a lot of small droplets (bigger than a cool mist would put out)... to get a good idea of what it looks like (sorry no camera) you can check out http://www.shroomery.org/forums/files/05-31/308291699-spawn_day_4_close.jpg for a close example of what mine looks like. thanks in advance for any comments or help.

from looking at your picture, i dont think that is a good thing. that amount of moisture can deaden myc and can cause overlay. i would increase air circulation right away.

thanks for the replies... the foaf told me she put vaseline on the top of the lid to make sure water wouldnt fall on the casing anymore. should she try to remove the excess moisture with a paper towel or should she let FAE take care of that?

alright, i contacted the foaf and she said she put a few paper towels in the microwave for 30 secs to kill any airborne contams that might be on it and then soaked up most of the larger droplets... she says that hyphal knots are starting to form and hopefully they won't abort... what are the chances of that happening after water droplets that size being on a casing for a few days?
