Controling Incubator Temps
    #4746094 - 10/02/05 07:41 PM (11 years, 3 months ago)

After one stalled jar after another, I started thinking it's not because of poor water content, or contams. I've come to a conclusion that it has to be because temps inside my incubator reaches 90 degrees at times, when my heater is set at only 86. My question is...Would drilling holes in the lid of my incubator to allow some of the warm air to escape be a bad idea?? And could that possibly be the answer to my stalled jars.

So would drilling the holes in the lid keep it around the temp I need?

prob will help, try it out. stuff the poly tighter to hold more heat and air, loosen it to make it flow better and cool down without letting contams in, peace

Well, you could insulate the bottom of your incubator if your using a box or something, I installed fabric to the roof of my incubator on the basis of heat rising and most of my heat loss would be occuring at the top of the incubator. My problem was a low temperature though, but i'm sure you could work around high temperatures using the same idea or others. For example ventilating the incubator; insulating the bottom of the container to some extent; changing the position of the heater or incubator or even the direction of it. I hope this helped, maybe more detail of your setup would help if you are still having some difficulties.

Edit: If your jars are reaching 90?F at the 86?F setting why not lower the setting to something like 80-82?F?

When I did my cakes I did many of them too weight. My biggest mistake was not measuring out the water, now I think a good jar looks more on the dry side. Also I pat the bottom of the jar with my hand to make it level and I think it compressed it too much. Started over today!!! Goodluck

Never trust a aq heater setting. I have never had an accurate one. Use a thermometer with it.
