Anybody just don't know what to do with their life?

I am 20 years old. I am a full time community college student. I live at home. I don't work currently. I just don't know what I want to pursue in life. Anybody at this stage? It's frustrating. I guess a part of me is just lazy/unmotivated too. If anyone of you has been in this situation, how did you overcome it? Did you just go with the flow? Or did you actually sit down and make long term/short term goals? etc?

I'm on my last semester at college. I'm not sure what line of work I want to go into after this. Fortunately, it doesn't matter all that much to me. I do know where I want to move, and in the long run, I'd like to be a full-time author, but in the meantime, I don't care much about what I do for work, as long as there's not too much of it to do. You figure things out a little bit at a time. A year ago, I didn't have nearly as much figured out as I do now.

Yea I'm in the same stage bro, there's nothing wrong with it. What to do with your life is a huge decision that shouldn't be rushed. I was going to be a corporate whore and go to law school for corporate law and make a shitload of loot, however I came to realize that this will in no way make me happy. I'd end up well off but not really doing something I could be proud of, so that got scrapped. Right now I think I want to teach high school english and coach the soccer team and the school, hopefully climbing the ladder to varsity coach with time. I might change my mind tomorrow at the rate I'm going though, so who knows.

I drink beer and like to get wasted, work to make money to support my habits..well and food and rent. just kidding, i want to get into some kind of computer career or something I like that I enjoy, I am not sure..my councelor tell me to look up a book called "What color is your parachute?" it is a book on helping you to find what you are good at to help you find out if you are really suited in the carreer that you are in.. I might do a google search on the title. I need to look it up myself.

Just about everyone goes through that stage. Setting up a list of goals is a great idea in my opinion. Gives you things to focus on. Get the best grades you can in college and fuck a lot of ladies. That should keep you fairly occupied for a year or two.
Jobs suck, find something you can do in your spare time to make money. Play poker, install/repair computers, mod xboxs, sell stuff, make a porn site, whatever. This is an important one, thank your parents for allowing you to continue to stay in their home and help them out whenever you can. It shows maturity, and will keep them off your ass more than you can imagine.
Don't waste your money on drugs. Keep stacking that shit up until you can afford your own place, then produce your own shit. Having money saved up is a great feeling and allows you to do what you want.

If your into computers theres plenty of courses around that you can do full and part time, at least it wont do any harm and you can decide what you want to be in a few years, whole manner of work can be found in computing.
Some think it's "easier" and "lazier" to just get a job and earn money but sort a part time job out, go to college or Uni full or part time and enjoy a few years earning money, getting a good qualification and enjoying life.
I'm 20 too and i remember something my grandad said to me "dont be in a hurry to grow up" - it's very true

Cool guys. Glad someone can relate. I'll google that book too. Right now career wise a part of me wants to pursue pharmacy, but i don't have the passion for chemistry. I mean its okay, but a big part of me wants to do it for the money and stability. Plus I don't know even if I can get into pharmacy school since I fucked up 1st year of college bad. Then again another choice I've been thinking about is Finance. I mean I can transfer to a good university and just get a degree in finance. I guess I just need to motivate myself and do something productive. Thats what life is all about. But I do know one thing I never just want to work work work for the rest of my life...and have no time to travel, chill by myself, etc.

I'm with ya man. I've been doing various construction/labor work for a couple years now. I know I don't want to do this shit the rest of my life but I don't know what else I could be doing really. Need to find my calling.

I've been in that position for about 30 years, and when you reach 50 you wont have the energy you had at twenty (take that as a warning)
The least I could have done, looking back, is to have taken the civil-sevice exam and stuck with it long enough for the benefits. I could still do that & receive benefits at 70 I guess.

Raises hand
But lately i do have one plan. I got some money when my brother died. not enough to live off but maybe buy a small house, but i already have one.So im gonna risk it all in hopes of making it big. My reasoning is if i save this money or even do some safe investing i still would have to work. in the big scheme of things it would only help with material possesions, where as being rich is much more liberating.

I'm just working at small coffee shop. Enough for rent, food, etc, and going to Massage Therapy school. It takes awhile to figure out what you're doing. But, if you just stick to it once you start, it will all be worth it in the end.

I remember when my friend was in college to be a high school level art teacher. I asked him, "Do you want to have to deal with kids that were like me when I was that age?". He dropped out shortly thereafter.

I feel similar. I mean.. one could sit around and see his favorite bands play, smoke weed, party, go to work, etc... but that seems a little dull. Terence Mckenna, how he explored different parts of the world and went on a life journy. I would like to do something like that. Just really get out there and do what I always wanted.
I say figure out what you like to do or would like to do, then jump into the world and indulge

i'm right in the middle of all that too. it fuckin sucks that's for sure. I don't know, I just try and have as much fun as I can I guess. I finally got a job that isn't horrendous and I'm getting paid a fairly good amount right now so that's helped a lot. I don't know what to do or what I want and I don't have an overly large amount of motivation. I'm fairly happy but I don't know. Something's missing.

Here's another one!
I have a general idea of what I want to do, but that always changes. I really love trees, plants, and nature so I'm going for an associates in landscape design/ornamental horticulture. My community college is offering a tree climbing class next semester that I am going to take. According to my instructor tree-care companies are always looking for good climbers and will hire on the spot if you have previous training/experience. Hopefully after I take that class next semester, and with my continuing education in the field, I will have a good shot at a very decent paying job next summer with some tree-care companies.
I guess you just have to figure it out a little at a time. I didn't know last year that this was what I wanted to be studying. It feels good to have goals, even if they are only for the short-term. You always have to have them, though, so you have something to strive for.

You are doing something with your life man. College will pay off good in the long run. I'm just about 20 years old too and totally lost.
Be happy.
