Straight COCO - COIR!?
    #4745604 - 10/02/05 05:09 PM (11 years, 2 months ago)

I'm thinking of inoculating a jar with straight coco coir, perhaps if this works case it w/ more coco.

I know that coir has lots of nutrients, and is nice and airy.

Has anyone here done this?
What were the results?

no coir doesn't have a lot of nutes, it has a limited quantity of nutrients available for the myc to feast on, that is why people use it in casing layers, because of its lack of nutes.
sure is nice and airy which is another reason it is good for the casing layers.
you can always try but i haven't seen anyone using just coir as a substrate.
best of luck with that
:peace:

Well, I like to use 50/50 coco coir/manure for bulk substrates and it colonize faster than blazes, so I don't see why straight coir wouldn't work for ya.  Give it a whirl and let us know.  :mushroom2:

What if i mixed the coir w/ some brf, pressure cook, and then innoc, i think it should colonize hella fast!

Straight coir is a little difficult to case with IME because it colonizes extremely fast which can lead to overlay.

That's been my experience, peat is the way to case IMO. As I just mentioned, coco coir makes for an awesome component to any substrate, but I have yet to try it straight. I'm interested to see how it would perform straight; you should see how it zooms along when paired with h/poo.
