Casing.....whats going on.[PICS]
    #4745514 - 10/02/05 04:43 PM (12 years, 1 month ago)

So this is my first attempt at casing.
I am currently casing three trays (2 colonized dunked cakes per tray), both strains of B+ and PR. The casing soil is layered on top of the crumbled cake, the casing layer is composed of verm, lime stone, peat moss.

Its been 3 days for all the trays, they are currently in an 80-83 degree room. The following pictures are what i saw today.

I am just wondering is that what is supposed to be happening?
Also i read once i start to see this, i should either A) immediatly put in the chamber or B) Patch up and wait till the whole casing is white. What to do?

Last question - I'm familiar with birthing the cakes in the chamber and completly familiar with misting, air exchange, and keeping the cakes at a close to 100RH level. However my question is, everything that i do with birthing the cakes....i also do to the casing?
The RH Level is to stay the same or no?

Thanks alot.

*Refresh page when you get to the link if nothing appears*

1. Casing 1 after 3 days....normal?

2. Myc on sides of other tray.......

3. Another casing shot....

4. Should i expect more before i put into the chamber?

5. Myc patch....i belive.

6. 3 days...shouldnt i have more?

Is everything looking ok or what.
Damn i hope i dont fuck this shit up.

I think that your tempratures are just a little bit low, and that you might should think about patching.
It's not very good off, but I don't think you're very bad off either. You can either increase your temps and patch or you could just wait a few days and put them into fruiting. But you will get more even growth in the future if you keep your casing very level and your temps in the optimum range.

temps are fine where they are for incubating casings, so no worries there.
i would give them another day or so and then patch and go to fruiting, by that time the rest of the tray should hopefully be caught up.
95-100% rH is ok until you start to see pins, then you really need to drop it down in the 85-90% range. fire up that six banger for lots of fresh air.
:peace: of pizza

by patch - you mean basically just cover up the spots of myc with more casing soil?

yeah just lightly cover up the myc that is showing and either go right to fruiting or wait until the rest of the casing layer catches up.
best of luck
