The REAL fixing S&P thread - Part 1 :Moderation
    #4745026 - 10/02/05 01:18 PM (11 years, 2 months ago)

Background: I have about 15 years as a successful manager in large and small Silicon Valley Corporations.

1. Moderators should be there to serve the forum; not serve their own petty needs.

2. Moderators need to be active and regular participants of the forum they oversee.

3. The members of a forum should be able to vote out any moderator they feel is doing a poor job.

This is the 4th or 5th post about S&P mods in the last few weeks. Hasn't this issue already been dealt with?

The shroomery is not a democracy, users do not "Vote" on things like mods, that is up to other mods and the admins to decide that. Sometimes they will ask the users for their opinions though.

The admins and mods usually do a very good job of dealing with any problems on here. It is usually people that provoke other users and or mods that seem to complain about them the most.

I'm sure there have been some cases where a mod's actions were not correct, but the admins always review them and make the final decision. The admins are usually always correct in the decisions they make.

Posting multiple threads on the same issue is not going to get anything done. If a decision was already made, they will stick by it.

If it is Off topic...there is already a forum for that. Splitting one forum will most likely not fix anything.

I agree with all but number three.

I have seen too many Mods publicly disgraced for doing NOTHING wrong to agree with #3. Popular Mods don't always make the HARD decisions... sometimes doing the RIGHT thing will cause a Mod to loose popularity. Sometimes, a Mod is only as popular as the LAST batch of drama will allow. Bad idea... but I'm sure you could come up with something better.

If the goal - as was stated by a Shroomery spokesman - is to increase forum participation, then how would making unpopular decisions do that?

If one person does the 'right' thing that most others disagree with; perhaps the definition of 'right' needs to be examined.

I didn't say the Admin agree with my feelings...

I just stated why I feel the way I do.

And by, "Right" I mean FOLLOWS THE RULES.

I think a Staff member who breaks the rules, especially in THEIR forum, should be looked into STAT...

I really believe The Staff (unintentionally) started this drama in S&P and their double standard (for ALL to see) has caused more trouble than Swami ever has.

How about practicing a little moderation yourself?

I mean starting three threads about how you believe one and the same situation shouls be solved is a bit much in more ways than one.

Swami, you come across as the ex-husband who stands at the exact inch of the border of the 100ft restraining order shouting at his former wife.

Imagine this POV:

Rules were broken occasionally, this has been discussed, but there also is an overwhelming amount of bad behavior at the very border of the rules and this has gone on nearly continuously for a long time. And when the border changed, you moved at the exact border of those rules.

If you look at it like that, how would you look at you?

Yet another off-topic post. Why make it about me? Try a PM. Thank you.

1. Agreed
2. Agreed
3. No Chance

As previously stated, if you feel that a moderator is letting self-interest cloud their decision making or that they are not active in their forum(s), please detail your case in private to the administration.
