There's debate over this, but I've heard rumors about two of them that were recently discovered by Steven Peele.

One is a red-spored cubensis, and the other is a Lepiota that contains psilocin/psilocybin.

No, anyone that goes around consuming unidentified mushrooms is a moron. That is a great way to get very sick/die.

Then how do you find out if something has psilocybin in it?

...bruising blue, Gas-chromatograph testing?

You don't go around randomly taste-testing unidentified mushrooms, I can tell you that.

The native NZ blue pouch fungus weraroa novaezealandiae is still in the process of being documented as a psychoactive fungus.

Oh yeah, Ps. Wielii and that NZ one are pretty new too.

The New Zealand one is quite interesting, as is Peele's Lepiota. Although, many are skeptical as to the existance of an "active" Lepiota.

Does anyone know of any research being done on the psychoactive "pouch fungus"? Any cultivation attempts?

Was it just not named and classified until the 90s then?

correct, it had been popping up in the cherokee county area for a couple of years,
it was commonly overlooked as being any other common mushroom it wasn't until
someone with an interest in mushrooms found a specimin that they discovered it was
an unknown variety. Cherokee was about 8 years into it's developmental growth at
that point

I am working on the pouch fungus. I was able to isolate viable spores from inside a dried pouch and germinate them on agar. Currently the mycelium is colonizing a grass seed/horse manure mix. I am working on a post for the advanced forum.
