DPS seizes 'boats' of ecstasy in traffic stop

Two California women have been jailed in connection with the discovery of 40,000 pills of ecstasy in their car by state highway patrol officers in Flagstaff.
The pills have a street value of $800,000.
Sgt. Rod Wigman of the Flagstaff office of the Arizona Department of Public Safety said an officer stopped the driver of a 1992 Lexus for speeding near the Walnut Canyon exit on Interstate 40. The Lexus, with two women inside, was heading east.
During the traffic stop, the officer asked questions about where the two women were heading and where they came from.
"The officer received conflicting statements," Wigman said.
The officer then asked if he could search the vehicle. The women initially said yes, but then rescinded the permission. A drug-sniffing dog was brought to the scene, and the dog "alerted" on the Lexus.
The Lexus was taken to the DPS fleet auto yard in Flagstaff.
"We located in the back quarterpanels inside the passenger compartment, 40,000 ecstasy pills," Wigman said.
Ecstasy, a powerful drug made popular by young people who attend "Raves," is mildly hallucinogenic and a stimulant.
Wigman said the wholesale price of the drug is $6,000 per "boat" of 1,000 pills. That would make the seizure worth about $240,000 wholesale.
But if sold per pill at a party, the value is much more, according to information from the Metro anti-narcotic task force in Flagstaff.
Metro estimates are that ecstasy sells for about $20 a pill on the streets at a party. That would make Thursday's seizure worth $800,000.
The two occupants of the Lexus were: Tick Panthabongsa, 34, Fresno, Calif.; and Colleen M. Alley, 20, Fresno, Calif. They were both booked into jail on charges of possession and transportation of dangerous drugs for sale.
Wigman said the drugs appear to have been going to Atlanta. The drugs originated in California.
The investigation continues with Fresno and Atlanta authorities.

Damn 40000 e pills left cali to be confiscated, how sad  i wish they could have stayed here. ida prolly got some from that batch if they did. Fresno isnt far from me.

Never heard the phrase "boat" before. Was just a jug for 1000. Before reading I was expecting an actually "boat load" of x. Would have been funny: "Small recreational watercraft seized full of MDMA tablets totalling 10 million" Would be one hell of a boat to be on.
