Pins in a straight line?

My friend is using 21 gallon containers. He innoculated the straw 3 weeks ago cased and now has a dozen or so eqs. He cased with 1 inch of promix bx. They are only growing directly below the floresent light wich is on top of the container. Is a forty watt floresent light enough for good pin formation? What should he do about all the mushies growing on the sides " under the casing layre".

Use an opaque container.
