i just don't understand why he is being made chief justice. Why does he get the lead job when he's the most inexperianced one in the group? Doesn't it make more sense to promote one of the other justices? Thats what bothers me.

Yeah I've been trying to find this out in the news but can't find an answer. Anyone know? Until now I had always thought the Chief Justice had to do somewhat with seniority

Chief Justice is more of a symbolic seat than anything.
They don't get two votes or anything.
That being said, if I were Scalia, I'd be pissed that this little twerp took the helm.

Yeah, I was sure Scalia would get the job before it was handed to Roberts.

Actually, a majority of the Chief justices were placed in power right away just like Roberts. I still don't like it.

Are you a woman red??? I'm not trying to be insulting. What im trying to get at is that if your are, your rights to your body are going to be slim to none soon. Abortion will be illegal in two years no less.

Actually if you read anything Roberts has written or said.. he is not a fan of activist judges -- by which I mean judges who enjoy the passage of opinions and stances into law. That's the job of the elected body of government. They MAKE the laws. Judges just decide what is and is not Constitutional. What does and does not infringe upon rights. If it is, and doesn't? Well, then it's judicially A-OK. Don't like the law? Then elect people who will repeal it. Simple as that, really.
If somehow he WOULD delegalize abortion? Elect people who will pass an amendment or law allowing it. So long as that law does not infringe upon the rights of others, it's A-OK. Is a tiny unborn clump of cells a person with all deserved rights? That's a sticky question, but I believe any sane person would realize that if the answer was "yes", things would get a bit out of hand. Is a miscarraige grounds for a Manslaughter charge? If an abortion is murder, than unintentionally causing the death of a fetus must also be on par with unintentionally causing the death of any other citizen, which means charges would be filed.
Is he Conservative? Sure.. but more importantly, he's a rational, thinking individual, who strikes me as one who realizes that in his (now) current position, his opinions must take the back seat to what is right and what is within legal bounds.

You dont get it, the chief justice is the final word on wether it consititutional or not. It's not a elected position, therefore you can't elect people to rewrite the laws. He can easily overturn Roe Vs. Wade. It IS within his power to do so.
Do you always believe what politicians say?? Does "No new taxes" sound familiar. You put way too much stock into what people say to get you to approve of them.

Incorrect. The vote of the Chief Justice counts no more than the vote of any of the others. If a case related to Roe is brought before the court, and the CJ and three others vote against Roe but five others vote to uphold, it stays upheld.

Do you know anything about the Supreme Court? The Chief Justice is not the final word on the votes. He has one vote, just like all of the other justices.
Quote:
Court duties of the chief justice:
# Leads oral arguments from the center chair on the bench
# Leads closed-door conferences where votes are cast on pending appeals and cases heard in oral argument
# Can help move the court toward a certain ideology through personal leadership and coalition-building (Legal scholars note that Chief Justice Earl Warren helped move the court to the left; William Rehnquist helped move it to the right.)
Administrative duties:
# Oversees administrative duties of the Supreme Court, including scheduling cases and setting deadlines for appeals and opinions
# Heads the Judicial Conference, the chief administrative body of federal courts; sets rules over civil procedure and evidence; handles budgets, security and staffing
# Serves as chief advocate and spokesperson over legislation affecting federal courts
# Names judges to serve on various administrative and judicial panels
# Issues a year-end report on the federal judiciary that sets priorities and highlights accomplishments and problems in federal courts
Special duties:
# Presides over presidential impeachment hearings in the Senate
# Traditionally presides over presidential inaugurations
# Serves as chancellor of the Smithsonian Institution
I included the list so people can learn about what they are spouting off nonsense about.

Yes, you will miss out on what it truly means to be a woman...that is getting knocked up, scrambling its brains, and getting it sucked out with a vacuum. LMAO
Im pro-abortion BTW, its just funny how these "reproductive rights" people glorify abortions like you are totally missing out if you don't get one.
Also FYI, the supreme court does not make laws. See: US Constitution Article I, Section 1
