yet another dream experiment
    #4739343 - 10/01/05 01:20 AM (11 years, 6 months ago)

well, while i'm sittin' here twiddlin' my thumbs waitin' for trendal to post the amazing results from his "find a book in your dream" experiment, i thought i'd propose another fun excercise... hope our resident master dreamers will participate:

please ask every dream character you encounter in your dreams to state the date and place. is there consistency among responses you get during the same dream?

i would think only lucid dreamers can manage stuff like this, but if you just happen to have a conversation in a regular dream and you are told what date it is and what place, i guess that qualifies as well.

i'm just trying to figure out where lucid dreamers travel in terms of time and space, that's pretty much the reason behind the excercise.

hope you guys are game for this. looking forward to living vicariously through your fun dream trips... thx.

I'd be down if I knew how to induce one.

I've only had two. Oddly enough, it was a regular dream until my old math teacher who was in the dream showed me a text book.. it was a whole bunch of gibberish.. it caused me to realise I was dreaming, and I became lucid.

i've only had 3 lucid dreams in my life, but the last one very recently and very much mind-bending qool that i'm now doing all sorts of shit to try and learn how to lucid dream more often.  it is absolutely so unreal to have knowledge of who you are, be able to clearly focus on what's around you, and most of all, be able to interact coherently with your dream characters!

interestingly enough, with my first lucid dream, there were some people around, but they spoke a different language and completely ignored me when i tried to interact with them.  even if i had talked to them, i wasn't equipped with interesting questions to ask at the time.  anyway, after much walking i ended up on a very long bridge and all i could do is look down at the river flowing under.  so i got bored and i thought to myself, ok, i'll wake up now.  and i goddam couldn't!  i was stuck there on what now seemed like an endless bridge in both directions, not being able to wake up, looking down at water and thinking to myself what in the flying fuck do i do now?  eventually, while running like mad on that dam bridge to get somewhere, anywhere, i lost my lucidity, transitioned into another dream and then i finally woke up.

most people when they become lucid, they get so excited that they wake up immediately.  for some reason, i experienced the opposite effect in my 1st lucid dream.  sadly, in my next two dreams, i ended up waking up way too early after realizing i'm dreaming :frown:  now, i'd rather deal with the panic of not being able to wake up at will while lucid rather than wake up too early, but back then it really freaked me out when i was stuck on that goddam endless bridge.

I have great ability at dream recall, which is how i quickly responded to Trendal's thread. I can usually go lucid when i want, but not a complete lucid state. Having minor control over your dreams in a semi-lucid state is easy for me, but being able to ask those certain questions would take one of the few (probably 10 in my life) highly lucid dreams I have.

i guess not as many lucid dreamers around here as i had hoped... well, keep the question in mind, it's fun to ask it around in your dreams when you have control over what you're saying.

I've had a few lucids,
one interesting thing I discovered is
if you shut your eyes in the dream (even tho they already shut!),
and imagine being somewhere or having someone or something with you,
you can actually control the dream to some extend,
I found that trying to control to much will awaken you tho...
