 Old Wives Remedies for lungs full of phlegm?

Anybody?? I'm just getting over a very nasty cold and my lungs are full. When I exhale deeply it sounds terrible. It's driving me crazy sitting here trying to cough it all up. Anybody have any old wives remedies or tips on clearing out the phlegm more accurately? I don't have any medicine that breaks it down on hand.

It sounds to me like you have bronchitis in which case you need to see a doctor. If that's the case they will give you an Albuteral breathing treatment, and some antibiotics. Beyond that they will suggest you get some musinex which is an expectorand that is available OTC and drink lots of water.

And even further beyond that, I personally would reccomend taking a hot shower then staying in the bathroom and letting the water run as hot as possible and just sitting inhaling the steam it will help break up the conjestion.

Thanks man. It's appreciated. I don't think I have bronchitis. I'm a heavy smoker and had a real nasty cold. All that snot draining down and shit building up in my lungs. However I've got some antibiotics on hand. Might as well take one.
I don't have any of that musinex you were talking about but I think I have some cold medicine with an expectorant in it.

My doctor says that simply drinking plenty of water helps to break down phlegm.

Yeah, water is the key no matter what medicines you are taking. And just to let you know, I'm a heavy smoker as well and that makes you a LOT more susceptible to bronchitis and other respiratory illnesses. If its not gone within a few days I'd definitely have it checked out.

i know a really fun remedy! LSD orr mushrooms will do the trick usually on higher doses. Both are expecterents. i dont know how well it will work but itll be fun to try though huh?

Take that expectorant that you have. Those help alot. I have had lung trouble my whole life. Bronchitis on a regular basis. The hot shower about an hour after taking that expectorant is a good idea also.

Man i have the same problem. Every breath i take i can feel it in my lungs but i cant cough it out.
What i do if its really bothering me is to take a deep breath and exhale out hard (not coughing) all the way and same time it will start to break it up then ill cough some up.
That and supe hot steam in the shower

I usually end up with a chronic cough after I get sick. The only thing that gets rid of it is some physical exertion that gets me breathing heavily. I go jogging a couple times and the cough is gone.
