"A smoker would theoretically have to consume nearly fifteen hundred pounds of marijuana within about 15 minutes to induce a lethal response... In strict medical terms, marijuana is far safer than many of the foods we commonly consume. For example, eating ten raw potatoes can result in a toxic response. By comparison, it is physically impossible to eat enough marijuana to induce death."

Did it look alot like this?

I found it in my yard, and have no idea what it is. I took a wild guess, 'cause I don't know shit. I thought it was a russula.

I could give a flying scat about what it is, though.

falcon gets the award for first correct genus guess. Those are Paxillus involutus, a mushroom that has caused fatalities. While we have yet to have a fatality in North America from them, there have been several life threatening poisonings.

Some eastern Europeans still think they are edible. Don't let anybody convince you to eat them. The toxin doesn't always cause poisoning. When it does, it causes your immune system to destroy your blood, causing life threatening anemia within a couple hours.

Happy mushrooming!

The only positive bit there is that they don't always cause poisoning. In fact, they cause it infrequently enough that there are people who think they're edible. They're one of the most recent mushrooms to be identified as potentially deadly.

So if somebody ate some by mistake they'd have a good chance of getting away with it. The really bad part is that they might then be tempted to eat more.

Happy mushrooming!
