Any help is appreciated, need help identifying...
    #4737120 - 09/30/05 03:51 PM (11 years, 2 months ago)

Habitat--The lawn in an area around dead trees and deer poop.

Spore print--Still in the process, but theres a little print now, and it looks like a light gold in a tiny spot, and it goes into a purple color, which is mostly the color of the print.

When broken, it bruises blue almost instantly. This lasts for a half hour or so, then just kind of leaves a little bit of green/brown behind..The blue not present after awhile.

The gills are from the outer edge of the cap and go to the stem, As in away that it looks like the gills form into the stem. The gills are yellow/gold, and look like there starting to brown from the inside. The gills are spongy.

When the mushroom was picked the cap was rusty brown. Now it just seems more brown...Before it was like an orange-brown (rusty brown).

The stems are short, while the caps are fairly big. Stems are about an inch or less, and the caps are anywhere from 3 to 5 n a half inches wide.

The last rain was about 32 hours before i picked them.

any help at all??

I just looked at the sporeprint again and what i stated is all thats there, about two centimeters worth of a print...the rest is just white.

Do boletes have psilocin in them?

They do not contain psilocin but a multitude of mushrooms, including many boletes bruise blue.

I can't really help you on the I.D. though.

thats a bolete

its sounds similar to boletue badius, but it could be another type of bolete

Pretty much all boletes are edible, they're one of my favorite mushies to eat YUM!

but make certain they're not poisonous B4 you eat

there are some boletes that are poisonous and stain blue.
Pretty much 1/2 of all boletes stain blue, but most are edible. boloetes are a relitively safe mushroom to eat, but be careful.

dont eat ones with red or orange gills, or ones with bright(er) orange caps

Okay well its definetly not orange or red.

So probably safe to eat, but not psychoactive?

no, your mushroom is most likely poisonous. almost all blue bruising boletes are poisonous.

Thanks to everyone who helped me out, nice site you guys have runnin...

I live in ohio, and work on a farm that has 25 acres....horses are the main thing on the farm, along with a bunch of dogs, and deer...Ive been hunting for awhile and found many many different shrooms....Usually just leave em but now Ive started pickin them to try and identify them.....On the land there are: Piles of dead trees, deer pastures, horse pastures, and a whole pile of horse poop was just removed (about 4-5 tons!) but the bottom layer of course is still there....Does anyone have any tips? Does anyone think that the odds of me finding psychoactive shrooms are good?

Ive found white shrooms with purple gills, apparently boletes, ive seen many other little brown ones...and numerous white and tan ones...Never saw them bruise blue, (except the boletes) so i usually just left them...Is that smart? or are there alot that DONT bruise blue? I know there are, but just tryin to see if those are the kind in my area

Ive read deeply into this site and learned alot....Just tryin to get some peoples personal opinions.....
