As far as I can see it says reduce the troop levels gradually and implement an aid program to the government.

I don't think it would need Einstein to figure that strategy out...but yeah, it sounds good. Iraq is headed for a bloody civil war so Bush may as well cut and run and let the bloodbath carry on for however many decades it lasts.

The only other thing I would suggest is that Bush and the rest of the idiots who proposed the invasion of Iraq be prosecuted as war criminals. That would give any other idiot tempted to launch an invasion on the basis of hyped propaganda that there are repercussions if you do so.

If it was up to you, what would you do? (not "I wouldn't be there in the first place")

How can they prevent a civil war?

Withdraw the troops is all they can do. Leaving the troops there just means many more years of the same chaos we see now.

How can they prevent a civil war?

I doubt they can. Lets face it - Iraq is an absolute clusterfuck.

where's the news clip I was watching the other day...

it was bush making an announcement about the war,
noting that an upsurge in voilence was expected.

but one point that he made, which was interesting, is
that they have started carrying out campaigns where
the iraqi forces in the group outnumber the americans.

if it's true and this is a growing trend, then, this
is a good sign.

Here is a direct quote from the text:

"The so-called insurgents are primarily Iraqis who have taken up arms against the occupying forces in order to protect themselves and reclaim their nation"

Wow....I couldn't say enough four letter words. I guess driving a truck full of home cooked C-4 into a group of innocent people, including citizens who have stood up, and are in training for becoming law enforcers, is merely "protecting themselves and their nation". What bullshit.

Its also quite a contradiction from this party to all of a sudden, support a 2nd amendment like situation. Its OK to have guns, and "take up arms" against these occupying forces, because it fits their argument. These assholes are for gun control in our own country.

No, they aren't.

I would wait until after the next elections before I started pulling troops out, but I would start pulling some out after the next elections.

oh, they're freedom fighters if you live beneath
the delusion that the US is some imperialistic
force seeking to permanently occupy Iraq.

I say we get up and move our army into Iran and really fuck some shit up. After Iraq has fallen into civil war and they kill eachother off, we can bring our army back and start again... this time with millions less potential insurgents to go up against. Then Iran will go into a civil war without our presence and also kill eachother off.

Conclusion: Lots of dead fanatical muslims.

It is a clever plan, I admit.

Ding, Ding, Ding! We have a winner. Even if a gov forms we will still be there.

According to a friend of mine who is currently about 30 km north of baghdad, Haliburton has massive facilities and they have 10 year contracts.
Who's going to protect them? The IA? The IP?
Nope!

There are companies such as Blackwater that provide security. Although it is much more convenient to have the military there.

I think that two standards should be met. First, all United States troops should be removed and second, we will ensure that enough Iraqi's trained by (and loyal to our cause) us OR private soldiers contracted through the companies that can make money there.

I think that we can find an army, train it, and insert it there, forcing the IRaqi puppet government to fund it. We don't need infantry men, in most cases, we need intelligence and small units going in to wipe out terrorist cells with silenced pistols and explosives.

Seriously though, why do we still have troops in Germany and Japan? I don't think there's any insurgents there that we need to worry about.

It's beneficial for us to have troops spread out, with our foreign policy the way it is. I think that the world needs to realize that they are safer with US troops around the world offering protection. At the same time we need to realize that we shouldn't be trying to meddle in all of the affairs of these other countries.

But for Iraq, we can send mercenaries over there, professionals, to find and kill these insurgents.
