Wheatstraw "cake" tek

Would it be possible to shred some wheatstraw, pasturize it, then place into clean 1/2 pint jars and innoculate with mycelium syringe? Without the vermiculite though. So it's like a PF cake, cept with wheatstraw. Also would it be easy to cut the wheatstraw cake in half, to do a flat cake type tek? Does anybody think the outcome would be good?

I'm sure it would work, dont see any reason why it wouldn't... couple of variations would be maybe to chop the straw into a powder with a coffee grinder; although i'm not too sure how well that would work, then mix it wth vermiculite in the PF cake ratio. But here is an even better idea (i think), the purpous of vermiculite in the cake is to hold moisture and provide airiation for the mycelium to cut through it; straw does a pretty good job in itself of holding moisture, and it would definately be 'airy' if packed into a jar. I would say to chop up some straw, any kind will work, chop it up pretty fine, like 1 inch peices.... soak this choped straw in water for at least 24 hours so it absorbs enough moisture to sustain... then mix this up with some brf, or ground birdseed, then pack or 'layer' it into your 1/2 pint jars, or even better use pint jars.. I would bet that the mycelium would cut through this shit and fully colonize the jar within 3 days after germination. I have never done this, but I can pictue it in my mind, and I see no reason why i wouldnt work, would be very nutricious, probably more so than the stadard pf formula.

Yeah. I like the results of wheatstraw, but the ease of a PF type deal. Which is why I was wondering if I could just crop the cakes, instead of casing. I was aiming for an easy to do, but still decent yeilding variation. I think I'm gonna try it with some P.R.'s.
