The Goal of Life
    #4735010 - 09/30/05 04:17 AM (11 years, 2 months ago)

As you have probably already noticed, there are alot of people out there who will claim to show you what the goal in life is and explain to you what the scriptures, such as the Bible, have to say about it. Skillful people will continue to attribute fully invented goals to existence. This political group will propose itself a goal, that religious group another, and so on, to infinity.

What could possibly be the goal of your life, while you are in full confusion yourself? If you are a prey to confusion, and if you ask yourself "What is the goal of my existence?", it is because you hope that through your confusion you will find an answer. But how could you find a truthful answer all-the-while being plunged in confusion?

If I am confused, and if I ponder on the goal of my life, the answer I will receive can only be a confused one. If my mind is confused, perturbed, and if it lacks harmony and tranquility, any answer, whatever it is, will come to me through this screen of confusion, of anguish and of fear; consequently, the answer will be perverted, tainted.

Therefore, the importance is not to ask "What is the goal of life, the finality of existence?", but rather to dissipate the confusion that is in you.

Its like if a blind man asked: "What is light?" If I explain to him what light is, he will listen according to his blindness, his darknesses that are his; but suppose that he can see - in that case never will he ask "what is light?", since the light is there.

In the same manner, if you know how to clarify this confusion that is in you, you will then discover what is the finality of existence; you will no longer need to ask, you will no longer need to seek it; the only thing you will need to do is to free yourself from the causes responsible for your confusion.

You seem to be saying you have this experience of clarity. Any hot tips.

agreed. when you are stuck in confusion no goal of life will make sense. when your mind is clear the question does not even arise.

I'm utterly confused, scared, and depressed. I attribute this to societal pressure for performance. Having said that, I'll crawl back under my rock and masturbate.

Cheers.

Masturbation is a good temp fix and is an attempt  at self love. Sooner or later though without addressing your core issues of why you don't feel good, it will become part of the problem.

Quit performing, and leave the cheerios to fend for themselves.

You've got a good soul, Icelander.  :mushroom2:

I guess it's a form of neurosis, this fascination with myself and my limited abilities.

I'm not looking for enlightenment, but I am looking for liberation, no matter how brief its duration.

Ignatius,

The quickest, safest, and most brief way towards enlightenment is to goto sleep.

Thank you for the kind words friend. Liberation IS enlightenment. I have dicovered IMO, in my lowly search for enlightenment, that it's a state of relaxation and surrender. Body mind and spirit. Nothing more.

We are almost all neurotic my friend. My abilities are limited also. Yet freedom is accepting your place in the Universe, knowing you are part of a bigger picture and you are exactaly what the Universe needs for the experience of every single feeling, emotion, and action. You are just as important as anyone else and no more important than a fly. Understand that and liberation is at hand. I'll be working on it with you.

Can a person learn to laugh? Or does laughter, like enlightenment, come effortlessly, like love,
as though our lives are changed in an instant, like an insect
colliding with invisible glass.

The invisible... wait, I think I'm remembering a William Carlos Williams poem, or maybe someone else...

In noticing my lover after her orgasm, laughter flows naturally like a spring from underground. Due to relaxation and letting go of control? What you think?

Joy yes, Joy can be the natural state of a relaxed unarmored body and mind. Joy brings laughter.

"Can a person learn to laugh?" Humans pick up most their behaviour off their parents even laughing. I don't wish to burst any bubbles but I reckon I could be doing alot of that. feral children are a great example of just how much of our basic behaviour is past on.

Basically the children where raised by dogs and lived as dogs. When they where thought how to speak the doctors realised that while they could learn words they never quite got the hang of sentences and it was like a fundimentle human eleiment never got switch on in their brain. It's been a while since I heard all this so I can't quite remember the details.

I don't see how there can be a goal to life. All living things work of eachother so simply by living your fullfiling your purpose as a living thing.
