sad but maybe true. Now that im working almost full time, i have no energy for spiritual pursuits, meditation, quiet reflective moments, deep reading, even remembering my dreams
I work, and if im lucky i also work out and go to class, and then i get drunk and go to bed.
Im making quite a bit of cash, but i dunno if its worth it.
in fact i KNOW it wouldnt be worth it... if not for travel.
i HAVE to travel. My life wont be my life unless i roam the globe on wild adventures. and you cant have wild adventures in foriegn countries without cash.
So, i plug on. Im still happy most of the time, but its not the same.
oh well. think of the rainforest. think of the mountain monastaries and siberian tigers. think of the coral reefs...
only about a year to go. Keeping my fingers crossed nobody nukes the globe before i get to see some more of it.
anyone relate?

work is no hindrance to spiritual life, if anything the discipline required to carry on with it can be used to one's advantage. your ego is just using it as an excuse to give up on your spiritual pursuits. if you were serious about spiritual growth it would not phase you.

Man you don't need money to travel. You can use home-stays for free and meet some great people that way. You can go to Guatemala or Egypt or some third world country and stay there for months for next-to-nothing. If your job is sucking the soul out of you it is NOT worth it. Just quit and find something more meaningful. Become a travel writer or something.

i see where you're comin from, man. i used to write inm y journal every night, and give myself time to meditate and relax before bed. now that i'm a full time architecture student, i NEVER had time. i write in my journal once a week, and i get to bed about 4 hours before class starts. and not due to partying, due to extensive HOMEWORK

Do work that you enjoy. It is one important key to happiness.

yes, the discipline you are gaining will definitely help in your spiritual life. Also, maybe you can try meditating while working. Direct your focus completely into what you are doing. It may not be as relaxing an blissful as sitting meditation, but it can be just as beneficial.
Leisure time truly is a GIFT!

I guess you'll have to focus on real spiritual pursuits like accepting every moment, placing yourself in the present experience, learning to bring awareness to how you interact with your environment in every moment, etc. etc. etc., you know, bettering yourself as a person, that kind of thing? There is nothing wrong with openly engaging yourself and developing who you are.
Honestly, if you have "no energy", then you are seperating yourself from your experience of life and injecting it with harsh, negative overtones, which will effectively remove your energy. Beings of light and energy, remember?

Sounds like quite the spiritual pursuit...
Peace.

i fully understand your situation. The drinking and hangin out with friends does take most of my time too. I am to busy hanging out with people instead of searching for anything anymore. Work and school and training (Martial arts) takes up every other second of time. Weekends Are better times. =)
