My 2 cents comes down to 'The Foundations of Tibetan Mysticism" by Lama Anagarika Govinda. It is THE definitive work on the comparison of Hindu and Kargutpa Tibetan Buddhist models. I based my doctoral dissertation on the chakras on this text, and was in written communication with the Lama. BTW, each of my chapters was headed by a Biblical quote that reflected a 'motive' and a 'location' and a transition from the preceding center. For the solar plexus/Manipura: "Lo now, his strength is in his loins, and his force is in the navel of his belly." Job 40:16, reflects the movement from the Svadhisthana' genital chakra (or anal-genital in the Tibetan tradition of 5 chakras) to the Manipura. Or again, from the Anahata/Heart to the Vishudha/Throat center: "The preparations of the heart in man, and the answer of the tongue, is from the LORD." Proverbs 16:1. This energetic movement or motivation can be illustrated by the MDMA inebriation, which 'opens the Heart Center,' and causes a verbal outpouring of feelings, thoughts and perceptions in heartfelt sincerity. MDMA inebriation is very much a Heart-Throat Chakra experience.
Like the Tibetan Buddhists, incidentally, the Hopi Indians have a 5 center system, and the Greek Orthodox Christians practice Hesychasm - 'Tranquility' - found in the Philokalia, in which navel, heart and head centers along with following the breath to them are used. Sufi Muslims have a system as well as Orthodox Jews (the Body of Adam Kadmon - the Qabalistic Tree of Sephiroth). Chinese Taoists also have a system (Tibetans, geographically between India and China draw on Hindu and Taoist systems - static and fluid - to create theirs). Peace.

No enter, I'm a tanto blade fighting martial artist with seven years under my belt of my own style. I do NOT like puncture wounds, filet or slice wounds, and especially chopping wounds. That means I don't like bleeding profusely (or even a little bit). Wanna compare scars one day champion? Getting stitches doesn't hurt. IT'S THE DAMN LIDOCAINE NEEDLE INJECTIONS THAT HURT. So that why I prefer to keep my blood inside me.

Four scars in one day? You know if you ever blow an artery get a thick cloth (anything you can rip immediatly) and apply fierce pressure until an ambulance arrives or you can get your dying ass to the E.R. ~ just some friendly real world advice in case you piss off the wrong person on the streets (you know, outside there in the open, daytime or night).

i, for one, am amazed at the number of physicists who have jumped into the fray per the mind/consciousness/soul question... including such luminaries as robert jastrow, carl sagan, francis crick, itzak bentov, fred alan wolf, gary zukav, fritjof capra, jack sarafatti are just a few that come to mind who have written books about one aspect or another of that particular "big question"...

MtG, got the book photocopied. There was a tornado alram but, aside from that the school has a wonderful variety of floura, hehe, like these "marajuana trees" - I swear the jagged 5-leaf'd trees look like pot! Laughing with the earth, water, and wind... while laughing about the metaphorical bull horns of thought - glad to see the book has a sense of humor reading that when the alarm went off.

Coincidentally...I finished 'DMT: The Spirit Molecule' today on my lunch break. Not until the last chapter does Dr. Strassman cut loose and wax 'cosmic.'

Oh boy, what a mighty long thread to read when your sacred blood is poisoned with alcohol. (I got that far, yes)
My take on the whole issue of the connection between your chemical brain and metapysical spirit is that there is a chicken and egg paradox. You see, when you'r body releases adrenalin, you get all worked up, because of the chemicals. But I think the spirit is affected as well, by some onnection we have yet to identify(somebody please enlighten me).
Of course it works the other way around too. If a feeling is provoked in the spirit first, it's intimate connection with the physical body will cause chemicals to releas which again cause the body to react in a particular way.
Chemicals can be said to be the remot control of the soul. It's simply the mechanism of your physical (biological, hence cehmical) body. Becuse of the intimate connection between spirit and body, the thing that is trapped inbetween, the result of their intneraction, is Mind. That might be why we are so flummoxed by this apparent non-causal link.
For me it is a fact that neither the spirit nor the body is in control. They are connected somehow, and through that connection flow signals, information. It is as already mentioned, the connection between body and spirit. Which in my opinion result in Mind. The Mind is the *interface* between the spirit and body, that's the message I am trying to get across. You grok? Good night!
