ok so let me start it off.
heres pics of mimosae i am growing and intend to grow in the near future:

The seeds:
clockwise from topleft; Desmanthus illinoensis, Mimosa hostillis, Mimosa pudica and Mimosa scabrella.

Desmanthus illinoensis: (source = online strade)

These seeds are flat and oval shaped and measure 4mm X 2.5mm X 1mm.
They very slightly in color but most confor to a particular
shade of brown.
All seeds have a semi-gloss shine.

Mimosa Hostillis: (source = online trade)

The seeds are not quite as distinctly oval in shape and measure 4mm X 2.5mm X 1.5mm
They are slightly less flat and have a considerably wider variation in color, but about half of them conform to a particular light brown color.
All seeds have a semig-gloss shine.

Mimosa pudica: (source = Van Hemert & co bv, Waddinxveen, Holland)

These seeds are nowhere near oval. They are basicly round with a pinched adge, the rounding of it is interupted by a streight bit
at one side of the seed.
They are quite consistently dark brown and matt.

The plants:

Mimosa Hostillis:
This plant is much more robust then D. illinoensis.
It makes 6 leafed branches when the stem is still green.
heres mine at 2 months:

A 6 leafed branch:

Also notice the little thorn type thingies along the stem:

Edit: i recently lerned that M. pudica is supposed to have these 'thorns'..

My mimosas have red stems, woody at the base.

The younng stems have very small but rigid hook-like hairs and, scattered around the main stem, are big red rose-like thorns. The big ones only appear after the plant gets bigger so they are not really visible in Vertigo's pics.

I lost my camera in a :toomuchacid: situation so im not able to take any good shots at the moment. I'll throw in a shitty cell phone pic of the top growth of my mimosa though which is a little more mature and thus somewhat different than Vertigo's. Mine's a 2,5 footer at the moment.

MH is a beautiful plant, fast growing, and easy to start from seed. What are you waiting for to grow a bunch of these, folks?
