Does anyone know of a way to tell these two seeds apart without having to wait 4 years until they mature and without sending the seeds to be tested.

Graft a seedling and you should be able to tell within a few months.

Very, Very quickly. I'm not sure the average person could identify it that quickly though. You'd have a shot over at the nook though.

diffusa usualy has less intricate "patterns"(tho williamsii can have this), and has much smaller tuffs of "fur"

Yes. I've been literally obsessed about grafting for the last couple days and I've seen many pictures that suggest that grafting really really really speeds things up.
...I just bought a bunch of opuntia compressa for that very purpose!

Quick question, when you graft like that and then you wanna transfer the diffusa or williamsii to soil, how easy would it be to get it to root?

Pretty easy to root, from what I hear. But apparently for the root to fully establish (something that normally happens over the years, nice big root) it might take a while.

I have to admit those appear to be the best grafts I've ever seen. Do you know what type of stock they used and (possibly) at what age they were grafted?

They were likely grafted as seedlings.

Pereskiopsis is often used for grafting slow growing cactus like those. I just happen to have some extra peres on hand right now. Make me an offer to swap or enough cash to cover the cost of sending it and I'll send you some cuttings. Pereskiopsis grows like mad and is easy to root. Do a search here, Una had some terrific threads on grafting with pereskiopsis.

If they were grafted onto pereskiopsis, they were grafted onto adult plants. I've read that the pereskiopsis grafts slow down after the second year due to scabs forming around the vascular tissue. Cool pics though!
