If you're looking for a cheap humidity gauge you can find them at pet stores for under $10 HOWEVER, I would caution against that. A hygrometer is a really useful device, but only when it's accurate. The petstore ones aren't that accurate, but if you go to home depot you can find them for $30 and up, and they're much more accurate and worth the money if you really need one.

You can calibrate a shitty one with some salt and water. Search for how to calibrate a hygrometer. There is a tek somewhere on the site about it.

Take about a teaspoon of salt, drop a few drops of water on it, don't drown it, place in a zip lock with your gage, after 5-6 hours it should read 75% humidity. Calibrate your's and see what you've got,
That's what mine read after an hour or so. Wound up reading 74%

There Ya go! Thanks HC! There should be a little hole in the back of the hygrometer that you can put a really small screwdriver in and adjust the screw inside back and forth until you get the 75% humidity.

The perlite should be working good by itself. Make sure that your terrarium is closed tightly when you aren't fanning it. A loose lid can let alot of humidity out. If you can't get the lid snug, use a plastic bag or something.
I just threw a garbage bag over this aquarium for a lid on my very first setup. 100% humidity with just perlite.

Cool
Most peeps humidity problems can be cured very easily by getting a GOOD hygrometer, lol. If you're going to use one, use a good one.
Here's what those little cheap-o's from Wally World look like in a couple weeks,
they are next to each other reading a 30% difference. Those Flukers are not much better. They won't work after a week or two in constant high humidity.
If you really want one, save some money and make sure you get one that is accurate and will hold up. Or you'll be worrying about problems that don't exist.
