Spiritual Study and the Search for Answers

I honestly don't get the point, unless one has applied the knowledge that they already possess. No, not some hidden and forgotten inner wisdom, but the basics like taking care of your body, managing your emotions, staying in the now, not judging; etc.
Much study is an excuse to postpone putting into practice what you do know. What good is higher level knowledge until we get past first grade? Does one study advanced physics without basic math and chemistry first? No, it is useless.

Or the spiritual wisdom informs them of the unescapable perfection that is existence, and they lead a content desireless life, not necessarily including taking care of your body (in the manner of trying to look good -> mate -> reproduce -> repeat).
If people are searching for answers, then it's a sign for future development, which is good. Some may take longer than others, or be illusioned into false beliefs, but you must first believe the illsuion to realize it.
I know you did a lot of spiritual searching but stopped. Why?

A few reasons:
I went through the psychedelic "revolution" which failed miserably. The young ones here did not, and still hold out hope of a chemical cracking open the door.
I lived in an ashram and not only noticed the same type (though much lesser in degree) pettiness that pervades the cities.
My "studies" never led to either greater wisdom, a better life, nor mystical experience. I am NOT discounting that the fault may be mine and not the methodology. However, I also went through the period of time when cults and new religions sprang up and died - sometimes catastrophically.
I investigated nearly every popular phenomenon and fad and guru and found every single one (that I looked into) to be lacking. Do people still speak of Pyramid Power? Face on Mars? Rajneesh? Harmonic Convergence? Rarely.
I was a strict vegetarian and meditator for seven years. I was healthy (a good thing - and still am) though I eat meat today and no longer do sitting meditation.
I never once tapped into into divine wisdom or stream nor found any paranormal claims to be valid; merely self-delusion.
What do I find to be "spiritual"? Health, friends, nature hiking, photography, music and the biggee: HUMOR!

Well so long as you are content that's great, I was just curious that's all. Each person is unique, so while you value those aspects of life more, others value mysticism and the likes. The key is to be understanding of everyone.

Valuing mysticism and experiencing/living it are entirely different.

Kudos Swami this is a good summary of your spiritual search. While you did not find that which you sought, nonetheless it was an intensive search.
Your experiences or perhaps your logical mind didn't bring you to "tap into divine wisdom". Reasonable enough. It takes two to tango. If you don't have faith in God, mysticism, the paranormal, how could you expect to tap into its wisdom?
Agreed, the world has a lot of scammers and con artists trying to capitalize on the hopes and fears of man.
Still, when our "spiritiual/mystical filter" becomes too fine very little passes through it. Purified water is safe to drink but lacks flavor.

True spirituality, as history has shown, has always been ostracized as it is misunderstood by those who invest much emotion into the games that they play. They need to lighten up.
Peace.

Breathing helium is a good way to lighten up.

i agree, except you made one mistake. taking care of your body, managing your emotions, staying in the now, not judging, etc are your forgotten inner wisdom. straying from it is what renders you unable to do these basic things. for example in one of my psychology classes we actually learned about a condition called "test anxiety", this condition only arises because someone has strayed from their inner wisdom. the buddha mind does not make itself sick worrying about tests, it simply calmy studies for the test.

The college mind stays up all night drinking coffee studying for the test after a lot of procrastination and consternation.

what do you find spiritual about those things?
as for gurus, have you ever looked into the teachings of ramana maharshi? he doesn't seem to be talked about very often here but out of all the indian teachings i've read his were the only ones which actually lead to a lasting change in my every day life and awareness.
