Easy Too Pasteurize Poo?
    #4729644 - 09/29/05 02:29 AM (18 years, 6 months ago)

I'm looking at Tenn Stud's website, and it seems as it's not worth it to buy Pre-Pasteurized hpoo...

So here's my simple yes or no question:

Is hpoo pretty easy to pateurize yourself?

Or are there ample oppurtunities of messing up?

There are pretty much these basic steps:

-Put dried hpoo into pillowcase
-cover pillowcase with distilled water
-get temps to 170 using a candy thermometer
-keep temps at 170 for about 2 hours (so the heat gets into the middle)
-while still in the pillowcase, let it drip out excess water overnight
-spawn
-eat final result

Do I have it pretty much down?

Those are the basics. Easier said than done, however. I'd give it a go if you're up for it though!

yeah, its pretty simple. the tricky thing is, if youre doing it on the stove, is to keep the temperature stable...the sweet spot on the burner setting. try high heat until 170, then somewhere between warm and low. stuff pillow case with poo, make sure its all submerged.

I have found it much easier to bring the water up to temp, get it stabilized and then add the poo. it takes a little bit for the temp come back to the desired temp but it won't go over what you original ly set it for.
best to ya

Its pretty simple, there are other ways you can simplify it. However if your doing large batches (30-50 pounds wet/batch) it can become a pain in the ass. Small amounts in a pot on the stove is much easier though. In the end, its usually a much better deal to do it yourself, but it can be a slight pain getting poo and poo water everywhere..

fungusman, do not worry! it is possible to grow without pasteurizing at all. if it is already fully colonized, then there is nothing to worry about.

LOL fungusman! Like puwtrip said, your poo is already colonized, so whatever you did worked. Colonized h/poo is as contam resistant as a fully colonized PF cake. Just be careful after you case it.

Besides, 2 hours would be more for those that pasturize their poo in poly bags rather than pillowcases because the heat takes longer to penetrate the bags. I usually do my poo in a pillowcase for no more than an hour.

There are a number who do it for 2-3 hours, but there are a number who only do 30 minutes as well. Some dont pasteurize at all. I like to be on the safe side, so I pasteurize for 2-3 hours myself.
