Hunting near Seattle
    #4730140 - 09/29/05 09:06 AM (11 years, 11 months ago)

Anyone had any luck yet this year? I'm new to WA and mushroom hunting. I'm located just east of Seattle and was wondering if anyone knows what i should expect if i went out say this weekend? Would hunting be better in prairie type terrain or forested areas?

Hi jimi2cool.....I am new to this area myself but not so new to mushroom hunting.
I did find some good 4 or 5 trips worth of P. Cubensis last summer (2004) in Florida. But I cant wait to find my first wild P. cyan or patch of them, being arguably the most species in the world!

It's a bit early still for the p cyans, but the rain this week might bring them out seeing as how it's been cooling off at night. Look in the beauty bark around landscaped areas of apartments and public places like fast food joints. The oysters and tooth fungus are out in the cascades and the chanterelles have just been waiting for this week's rain to come out in force. The chanterelles will be on hillsides with douglas fir that get a bit of sun peeking through.

So what active should i expect? What type of landscape?

Also, there are alot of hourse trails around here. Any actives prone to popping out of hourse dug? I know about cow manure sonce that's all the few species found in illinois ever seemed to grow on but i'm not sure about the hourse equivelent.
