Air Exchange in Terranium
    #4730129 - 09/29/05 09:01 AM (11 years, 2 months ago)

In order to get frequent air exchanges in a terrarium (good humidity, two 12 inch air stones "wicking"), besides fanning every 3 hours manually, holes can be put on the top of the lid of the terrarium, correct? If this is true, how many, and the diameter the size of like a nail?

Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me.
And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
Where the fear has gone there will be nothing.
Only I will remain.”

i put holes at the bottom. about an inch above the stones. co2 is heavier than air. it will collect a the bottom of your terrarium. i have a few holes about the size of a quarter with polyfill stuffed in them.

but this is my first grow. i'm no expert so i wouldn't recommend doing anything i do without an ok from more experienced growers.

yes you can put holes in the terrarium to help aid in fresh air exchange. i would go bigger than the size of a nail, maybe 1/2" to 1" would be good. then stuff them tight with polyfil. how many well that depends, try a few and see if it is affecting your rH or not. if not then add another one, if you get too many and it does lower the rH then you can always tape them over.
best of

i have holes all over my terr.
this way i dont need to do any fanning, its all done by itself.

My Chamber

if you want to avoid the tubing and pollyfill, ive seen some just drill half-dollar sized holes and fill them with pollyfill.

Just make sure that it doesn't affect your humidity too much.

i thought casing would pretty much take care of humidity. like you can mist the case in spots. I gotta figure out how im gonna keep my RH up in a lil grow setup of mine. maybe some perilite on the bottom soaked with water and h2o2? best of luck, peace

It's true that casings don't need as much humidity, but that doesn't mean that they need NO humidity. I'd say around 85% or so will do, but I wouldn't go much lower than that..
