Changes in incubation tempurature

ok well this underwater aquarium heater isn't that great but it's all i got. The temp won't go down for some reason it keeps wanting to raise so i usually unplug it when it's around 87-88 and plug it back in when it's around 83-84. The temp changes are slow so i don't mess up too often, if i had money for a better one i would buy it or if i had money for something to plug into the outlet to turn it on and off at intervals i would buy it.. but i don't.

So basicly my question is, does fluctuating temperature affect colonization negatively in any way?

No, the higher temps just speed things up.
