BIrdseed fucking goo!
    #472985 - 11/28/01 09:59 PM (23 years, 2 months ago)

I have done the Rych Hawk substrate tek but made it into quart jars. I have heard of just straight birdseed doing the same thing as what I am about to whine about. What the fuck is the goo? Is it too much water? Is it too much boiling of the seed? Is it bacterial wastes as I see no contams? I lost a whole strain because of this. Other people must have had this problem. Please help.

this has nothing to do with the mycelium or the particular strain. it's exactly what you called it - GOO! when you add water to the seed and then heat, all the shit (dust, dirt, shell particles, etc.) soaks up the excess water that the seed kernels did not... kind of making a mud/goo so-to-speak. if you should have noticed this a little before inoculating the jars, and with time it got worse as gravity pulled all the excess water to the bottom of the jars.

i've got some filter patch bags full of finch seed that i pressure cooked last night that is full of it on all the sides of the bags. i'm about to run all of it through a strainer to get rid of all the excess moisture (not to mention that fucking goo that looks like bird seed shit) and then re-pressure cook. this should fix the problem. i'll keep you posted if you'd like.
