Can you over pastuerize?
    #4728276 - 09/29/05 12:38 AM (11 years, 2 months ago)

I am right at the begining of some really nice poo stew and I fing that I have to leave for about 2-3 hours....it it okay to let the poo cook for that long? Or should I say F*** it, and stay home.??

you can always go out and maybe you'll return to a house fire or just the horrible
smell of burning poo... use your noodle, never leave something cooking on the
stove when you're away.

I really doubt something would happen. But back to my ORIGINAL question.....it it possible to over patuerize?

it's quite possible, if the water simply evaporates out and nothing more it'll take weeks to rid your house of the smell, if you have carpet, drapes and such,
it could be months, burin po is much worse than the smell of fresh poo.
(experience talking here)

yes but not in a couple of hours, you do however need to monitor the water level
to make sure that it stays submerged

Listen to his advise about not going out while somethings cooking..EXPERIENCE talking here again  burning poo sucks... Besides that, evaporating water, means less water to heat and the water will get warmer..you could come home to poo thats touching 200 degrees..I've fallen asleep and woken up to that, 4 hours later.

BTW, I pasteurize for 3 hours everytime, since I follow agars tek which is what he does as well. There are some teks that say 6 hours..I remember reading after that you dont want..i also remember reading definatly after 12 hours it starts to loose nutes and your hurting the substrate.

Yes. over pasteurizing can not only lead to scortched poo/straw but even a prolonged pasteurizing can kill off the beneficial bacteria needed for a fruitful grow.

I think it is just common sense not to leave a stove on while your not home, no matter what you are doing.....pretty silly risk to take.....pasturizing poo or not.

The smell of burning shit is one of the nastiest things in the world...and will take a good amount of time to get out of your house. Besides that, you don't really want your neighbors to smell it and wonder what the hell is going on.
