Could you raise yourself better then your parents did?

I wondered today if I could raise myself better then my parents did.
I thought hard about it, and honestly, I'm not sure. I'm a tricky person. I can't say if I would have been able to do a better job. I definitely wouldn't have smothered myself in religion, that's for sure. I feel their continuous acts of shoving religion down my throat and keeping me isolated from the "real world" has damaged me. That's the only thing I would say I'd do differently. All things stem from religion for my parents so just eliminate that, and I would be good.
however, I would not be the same person I am today.

I think the rents did a decent job, but when you're a stubborn, hardheaded, know-it-all, smart-ass, drug dealin' A-hole like I was, you don't realize it until many years later...I'm glad I mended things before they passed on.

Yeah, I hear that. I used to be completely bitter against my parents for the things that they did, but now that I'm older I'm realizing that parenting is no easy job.

But if you mean like 10+ then maybe, but my mom did a great job raising me...
So no...
And I'd probably be in jail also...

I am not sure if I could do a better job or not, but I wouldn't push religon on my kids at all, like my parents did...they would practically force us to if we didnt want to go.... I would be a lot more laid back on them. They might do the same things I did when they got older, but they most likely wouldnt rebel and get into hard drugs and a gangster lifestyle. But I would lay down some rules of course, if you have weed you better smoke some with me.. But my parents have been very good to me, and they still are..and raised me well reguardless.

Well, the most I can say for my parents is my mom put a roof over my head and instilled wonderful values in me when I was young and she was still around frequently.
I raised myself for the most part from age 8. I sent myself to school, I payed all school and sports fees once I was old enough to have a job, cooked for myself, and puchased most of my food, clothing, and belongings. My parents loved me very much, but sadly we were at poverty level, so my mom worked two full-time jobs to keep up off welfare and went to school. She was never home.
Most people, young and old, think I'm extremely responsible and mature for being only 22.

Man, a lot of people say there's nothing better than your childhood, mine was hell. Since age 8, I cooked for myself, took a bus anywhere I needed to go, and overall, raised myself. I grew up in what most americans would consider a ghetto, but I didnt find it so bad myself. Got in a lot of fights as a kid, my dad would always swear at me and my brother beat me up. He did offer me financial support however and got us out of that deathtrap, and I do love him for that. I would not have had the privilege of going into the field Im going in if it wasnt for that.
My dad was also a valedectorian however, and I always fucked up in school. If I was in the position I am now raising myself, I'd do a helluva better job, like...calling NOT calling the cops on your kid and asking them to arrest him. If I was where I started however, I am not sure if I would've pulled through.

I feel spoiled now after I read that. my parents werent really rich when i was growing up, but i alway had food on the table and clothing, and they payed for my schooling. I don't understand what happend to the way I was thinking then, it must have been all that forced way of religous thinking, and upbringing. I feel like a brat now, my parents were too good to me, of course they love me and I love them as well. They have helped me out of so many jams in life just recently, helping with my bankruptcy and rent in the past. I payed them back of course but still. I will forever thank them, and forgive the way i have acted towards them, mainly negitively in the past..

At least you're grateful about your upbringing Many people aren't...
I was the only Girl Scout whose mother never showed up for the weekend campout.
She never showed up for parent-teacher conferences, too. Let me tell you, that was a fucking blessing!! I forged her signature in 4th grade on the weekly thing I had to take home....
It wasn't till the end of the year she found out and pretty much beat my ass for it
I'm definitely glad how things panned out in my childhood. I was in a sense very sheltered, but I understood how things worked. I could see the big picture. I guess that's something I should thank my mom and dad for

cool, your mom must have loved you enough though to work 2 full time jobs!.. don't feel that bad though, sometimes having a struggling upbringing can make you stronger then people that have it easier..you have been there, so you know what it is like. Some of the really spoiled kids now days have parents who buy then cars and give them a lot of an allowance. They are gonna be the ones that are gonna be hating it when something tragic happens bacause they aren't prepared for it at all. It is pretty shameful.
