Every, or nearly every US politician is a criminal and swine. Not just Republicans. He's not going anywhere, by the way. He's a politician and he is very wealthy. In the unlikely case he does, he'll be sent to a prison or jail that is the equivalent of an enclosed beach resort.

Not to come to the defense of DeLay, but let him have his day in court. If the charges have any merit he will go down. After the comments he made the other week about how there was no more waste to be cut in the federal budget I don't see how or why any Republican would still want to support the guy. My former party deserves better leadership than that and I for one will not be shedding any tears if he is convicted.

Yes they are. And this guy Earle has an interesting history of bringing bullshit indictments. He indicted Kay Bailey Hutchinson and then refused to present evidence. He's convened 6 grand juries to go after Delay and finally got one to indict. The indictment itself is amazingly nebulous and devoid of specific charges...."on such and such day Mr Delay and several henchmen discussed...." I don't much care for Delay but these are smear tactics of the worst kind.

I just read it and I would suggest that anyone who wants to call Delay a criminal based soley on the fact that he has been indicted do the same. Since I have heard the judge in this trial also hates Delay I will not offer my usual C-note for either a dismissal or an acquital. I will however put that same C-note up against any of yours that any conviction of Delay will be overturned. This is only because Texas is the home of Tulia and anything can happen there. I still expect a dismissal but have no faith in their courts to risk my own green.

He also has a history of indicting corporations and dropping the indictments for six-figure contributions to institutions of his choice. How that is legal, I don't know. He's good at playing the game.
