Well I was raised by my mother when my father left when I was 6. She took on 4 jobs and put food on the table and a roof over me and my brother's head. So no, hell no, I couldn't have raised myself better.

I don't think so...
I grew up in an affluent suburb and always had both of my parents supporting me and taking me and my brother places. My father always took me and my brother fishing, canoeing, to ballgames, drove us all over to our sporting events, etc
My mom was cool too. I had a pleasant experience growing up

Even the things my parents did wrong, I learned from. If I ever have kids, I won't treat them the same way.

Yes and no
They did a good job raising me as a person. But I caught them in so many lies. It also dosn't help my dad still is an alchoholic and my mom is also except she throws in benzos. I don't know if I could do a better job being a parent right now but one thing is for sure I would never lie to my kids. When I was younger I was suicidal b/c when my dad got drunk he would blow up on the smallest things in return my self esteem was pratically at 0.

Financially and emotionally, my parents have supported me through thick and thin. But the one thing that was missing is that they never seemed to understand me. They tried. Oh, how they tried. But I could always sense that I was the black sheep of the family. I just couldn't relate to them the way I would want to relate to my kids.
When I have kids, I want to be the "cool" parent. I'll take them to lots of concerts and festivals, play lots of rock music around the house, teach them how to play guitar, smoke weed and trip with them when they're old enough, let them party with their friends in the basement...shit like that. I'd tell them the truth about drugs and teach them about the importance of safe sex. I'll offer my wisdom, but let them learn from their mistakes. I'll tell them what I think of their friends/boyfriends/girlfriends, but let them make their own choices. I'll offer my opinions about the world, but encourage them to form their own. Knowing where I am now in life, I doubt I'll be able to offer as much financial support as my parents gave me, but I'll do my best.

Little Randal: Daddy...how should I treat women?
Randal: Find 'em, Fuck 'em, and flee!
Just kidding.
Would I have done a better job than my parents? I really don't know. My parents had their flaws (believe me), but I always had food on the table, a roof over my head, medical attention when I needed it, and unconditional love and support. I guess you can't really beat that.

I might have been a stronger person, if i was forced to find work at an early age and work for my own food, clothing and shelter..but I havent completelty told the entire truth to my parents about a lot of stuff even recently..I fell like i used them sometimes too. but i will tell them the entire truth one day, and I am contantly helping them out, they are getting close to retirement age.

Indeed. You make the best topics Ellemy. You were also like the first person to give me a ranking thing when I first joined, so you get 1000 bonus points.
