it rained hard here a couple of days ago, and the nights have been getting cooler and cooler. So, I was suppose to be continuing to paint my house today. But couldn't resist going hunting when I found this on the way home from getting my morning coffee.
grifola fronderosa: Hen of the Woods. A little overgrown, and a bit wet from the rain 2 days ago. but still quite fresh, and it weighed 15 pounds after being cleaned. The stalk was over 6 inches in diameter. (unfortunately my camera blows, the mushroom looks much nicer than these pictures)
LBM, initial spore test: ( black, maybe dark purple) will have to wait and see. Also very fragile Oh look, another LBM ah what the hell, how about another LBM
I will probably give most of the hen away, these are one of my family and neighbors favorite mushrooms. I will dry the rest for my mix. I could probably sell it, but when it's overgrown like this, the stalks become a bit woody, and the wetness of it is going to reduce it's shelflife. Plus, I only sell grade A number ones of whatever I am picking. have a nice evening everyone- norm
