Morning Glories? Type? ID needed.
    #4723420 - 09/28/05 02:01 AM (11 years, 7 months ago)

My neighbor recently moved out. She was an avid gardener and has these plants in her backyard that I think are morning glories. I'm interested in them and she would not mind sharing the plants (such as one of the ones she has in a planter). I just need to know from someone more skilled if they are morning glories or not, she wasn't certain (bad memory she has). I know the flowers are wilted (sorry, I didnt get them before the last ones had shrank from earlier that day), but the color is intact.

Not the most detailed pics , but yes they are Morning Glories, Ipomoea Tricolor , and appear to be the cultivar ' Grandpa Ott', very beautiful flowers . -Tranceharper

My apologies for the photography... I've shot many kinds of flower before but I've never had the challenge of trying to have a climbing vine as the subject. That and I'm not exactly sure what to have focused on. I suppose a macro close-up would have helped.

Thanks for the ID! I guess I'll have to go check if that var is psychoactive or not. If it isn't they're still a great flower (especially since they love growing in crappy soil like mine) and I'd love to have some in the yard (carefully trimmed of course, since they spread like mad).

'Spread like mad ' ... Take a look at some places along west coast of olympic peninsula WA roflao , these things will choke forests out if they are given the chance , though thoes are Ipomeoa Alba , there are bindweeds and all manner of similar . Invasive little buggers  -Tranceharper

so far I haven't seen anything referencing both Grandpa Ott and Psychoactive in the same context. I assume that all strains are at least somewhat active, but grandpa ott variety is probably less so than heavenly blue or flying saucer.
