I don't want to celebrate Christmas

I'm an atheist, and my family knows this. My family isn't religious, either. My mom is somewhat, my dad was raised going to catholic school until HS and is now agnostic, I think my sister is a believer, and I know two of my 4 brothers are christians.
So I've been celebrating Christmas with my big family for my whole life. I have been atheist since around 6th grade, but I still celebrated Christmas. I didn't view it as a religious holiday, but rather a very commercial holiday. That is what Christmas has become in this country. It is nothing more than one big commercialist holiday.
I buy gifts for older bro and his wife, 2nd older bro, 3rd older bro, sister and her wife, little bro, and both my parents. Last year I spent $200 on Christmas. And it's not that I'm a cheap bastard and don't want to spend the money. I just don't feel like I have done anything warranting me receiving a gift. Nor has any of my family, save for my parents, done anything warranting me giving them a gift.
With such a big family, and such a long tradition, how do I not do it? Everybody in my family will think it's very weird, and I know my parents would probably still give me gifts. I don't want them! I don't want to receive these gifts, and I don't want to give any gifts! Why does this make me feel like an asshole?

I'm agnostic but i just go to the big functions to please the family. Its the only day out of the year that i really see them anyways, but if I lived closer i could see how it could become an issue.

I'm agnostic, but I love Christmas. Maybe it's the like of the cold weather or the thought of falsely becoming joyous with a vagina that makes me happy.

Christmas has nothing to do with religion any more.
My whole family thinks Christianity is fucking stupid but we still celebrate Christmas.

Ya, I'm going to have to agree with spud on this. Though I'm not atheist or agnostic, I'm not Christian either, but I still celebrate Christmas with my family, and I enjoy it. I even go to church with them on Christmas Eve, and I enjoy the ceremony of it, even if I don't buy into the sermon. Christmas is about family. Don't deprive them of that.

I'm an atheist also, but just look into what Christmas really is: a time to embrace materialistic values. How could someone not like that?
It may be more trouble than it's worth to stop celebrating Christmas with your family.

"Christmas is about family"
yep. not alot of ppl think of it as the "religious day" (although some still do). just like no one thinks halloween is celebrating the day of the dead, they just think CANDY/PARTY!!!

I agree I am not christian but some of my family members are and I still celebrate it as a time giving, recieving, and having fun.
