Opinion on bottom casing layer????

Ive been reading that the bottom of a casing layer goes 50/50. Some people are for a 1/2in layer of moist vermiculite at the bottom of the casing, and then again some arent.
I'm thinking about doing it, for it seems like it poses no harm--even though its more time consuming and whatnot.
I was just wondering what you guys are about. To put a bottom layer of verm, or to not put a bottom layer of verm....that is the question.

If you're casing whole grains like wbs, rye, exc., I use a bottom layer of casing material as well.....

yea u can do that too.
however - im not talking about the rubbermaid containers (fruiting chamber), im speaking of the actual aluminum pan in which you case in.
but yes - some people do also use perlite ive read in the casing tek.

I don't recommend it either. It can certainly lead to anerobic bacterial breakouts because the water will tend to stagnate because it cannot evaporate under the substrate. It was developed as far as I've heard to "soak up" excess water because of improper water delivery as far as suppling the sub with needed added moisture very much bogus IME. You want to be as efficient as possibly as cultivators/mycologists in order to cultuivate your skills as a grower IMHO. Damn I hope that made sense

thank you very much for the reply....
So in the use of not putting a bottom layer of verm. Do i just go about putting the broken down cake on the bottom of the aluminum tray and the casing substrate above it?
