Perlite instead of vermiculite?

Would it be okay to use perlite in place of vermiculite for the pf substrate technique?

I tried perlite sicne I couldnt find vermiculite. It worked OK, but not great. the perlite is too hard, so the mycelium just grew around the the outside of the jar. I ended up making a casing out of that cake though. It took it about 2 weeks to start fruiting and im getting some moster shrooms from it. Overall, after having fought with it, I would say your probably better off just ordering vermiculite online. Just wait till you can get some vermiculite.
